Working together to keep our roads safe |

Dear resident, Road safety is everyone's responsibility and small actions can make a big difference. Here are some important reminders about staying safe on Surrey's roads and how we can all help keep our communities safe.
Illegal number plates: Illegal number plates can prevent police from identifying vehicles involved in crime, speeding, dangerous driving, or hit-and-run incidents. Examples include altered spacing, non-standard fonts, tinted covers, or plates that have been deliberately obscured. If you spot a vehicle displaying a suspicious or illegal number plate, please report it via the Surrey Police Reporting Hub. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: Alcohol affects reaction times, judgement, and concentration, whilst drugs, including some prescription and over-the-counter medications, can impair awareness and slow reactions. Always plan your journey home in advance, use a designated driver where possible, and check whether any medication you are taking may affect your ability to drive safely. Speeding: Exceeding the speed limit increases stopping distances and the severity of potential injuries when collisions do occur. This is particularly important in residential areas where children, cyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users may be present. Please drive at a safe and appropriate speed for the road and conditions. Distractions behind the wheel: Using a mobile phone whilst driving is illegal and significantly increases the risk of a collision. Staying focused on the road and avoiding distractions such as texting, social media, eating, drinking, or adjusting devices, can make a real difference.
Surrey Police continue to carry out proactive road safety operations across the county and through Operation Limit officers work alongside Surrey RoadSafe and the Roads Policing Unit to identify and tackle dangerous driving behaviours, including speeding, drink and drug driving, and the use of illegal number plates.
By combining enforcement, prevention, and education, these activities help reduce road danger and make Surrey's roads safer for everyone.
Together, we can make a difference. By driving responsibly, ensuring our vehicles are roadworthy and legal, and reporting concerns when appropriate, we can help keep Surrey's roads safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. | ||
